Solid Waste Educational Boxes

TSAG’s Solid Waste Educational Boxes are a hands-on resource designed to support teachers in First Nations schools across Alberta by providing engaging, age-appropriate environmental learning materials. These boxes mirror the success of TSAG’s Fire Boxes and are tailored to bring waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability concepts into the classroom in meaningful and practical ways. Each box is carefully prepared with ready-to-use lesson plans, interactive activities, and culturally relevant learning materials that can be easily integrated into existing curricula. The goal is to help teachers inspire students to think critically about waste, environmental stewardship, and the importance of community-driven action toward a cleaner future.

Each seasonal Solid Waste Educational Box is designed to meet the needs of multiple grade levels—elementary, junior high, and high school—ensuring that every student, regardless of age, gains a deeper understanding of the waste stream and the role they play in protecting the land. The content emphasizes local relevance and Indigenous knowledge, connecting traditional environmental teachings with modern waste management practices. Teachers will find that each activity encourages teamwork, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving, while supporting curriculum outcomes in science, social studies, and environmental education.
