Transfer Station Basics Course

TSAG Transfer Station Operations Training
TSAG is holding a one day Transfer Station Basics course on Thursday, November 5th, 2026 at the Courtyard by Marriott Edmonton West. This course will be held following our Beyond the Bin workshop on November 3rd and 4th. We encourage participants to sign up for both the Beyond the Bin workshop and the Transfer Station Basics course.
Participants in the Transfer Station Basics course will learn to:
IDENTIFY
- Different waste stream categories and which streams are recyclable and/or recoverable
- The function of key infrastructure elements of a transfer station
- Non-compliant waste stream materials
RECOGNIZE
- Programs and markets available to your community
- The importance of data collection
UNDERSTAND
- Fundamentals of an integrated waste management system
- Environmental controls and regulations
- The importance of maintaining a healthy and safe environment
- Issues and challenges associated with planning, designing, and operating a transfer station
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Public Works Directors and Managers, Transfer Station Operators and Garbage Truck Drivers

REIMBURSEMENT
Reimbursement for travel and accommodation will be made directly to the First Nation and for two participants from each Alberta First Nation. Please allow 4-6 weeks for reimbursement payment.
