This component will be 35 hours (5 days) long. The maximum class size for WWWT100 is 15 students. Priority will be given to those operator’s wo will be writing their Level 1 exams The Water and Wastewater Level I Primer has been designed to provide learners with the introductory skills needed for a career in the water and wastewater treatment industry. Learners that successfully complete this course will be able to describe and implement fundamental water and wastewater operator skills to protect public safety and ensure efficient operations of water and wastewater treatment systems. This course is approved by the Government of Alberta as Mandatory Entry Level Training requirement for level 1 water and wastewater certification. Graduates of the Water and Wastewater Level I Primer will be able to comply with water and wastewater regulations and relevant legislation, describe public safety and environmental protection strategies, and identify documentation and record requirements and is supported by the following learning outcomes and abilities to:
  • Describe regulations and legislation applicable to the water and wastewater industry in Alberta.
  • Describe potable water treatment practices.
  • Describe water distribution system operations and their components.
  • Describe wastewater collection and treatment.
  • Describe the operation of support systems in water and wastewater operations.
  • Identify safety and security issues and solutions for the water and wastewater physical facility.
  • Describe documentation records, logs and requirements for water and wastewater treatment.
